Education is a topic that is near and dear to every parent’s heart. What your child learns in his or her formative years sticks with them the rest of their life. They will learn what information is relevant and valuable and what will help them meet their eventual life goals.
According to census.gov, 81% of kids attend a public school. These are institutions paid for by local, state and federal taxes. There is a wide disparity of the quality of education a child receives depending on where they live. Public schools have been successful in the past but shortcomings have forced parents to look outside of the public school education system.
Parents often look at local private schools as a solution. These schools offer a more finely-tuned curriculum and have different standards than a public school might. And still for some parents, they are looking for something completely different. A boarding school or a military school can sometimes be the perfect fit for a child looking for discipline and direction.
Studies have concluded that parents are looking for a balanced curriculum, safety and rigorous academics most of all when it concerns their child. Still, other parents are looking for other aspects in their kid’s schooling. Perhaps they want their children to have a better education than they had. Maybe they want them to make life-long friends and learn a trade.
Preparing for standardized testing is an important facet as well. A good school will let you know right off the bat that they plan to prepare your son or daughter to perform well on standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. These tests are designed to gauge what knowledge your child has acquired during their time in school. They also are used by colleges to decide which students get admitted and which do not.
In conclusion, schooling in the 2020’s is different than it was in the previous century. There are many more options for parents. They can opt to send their students to public schools, private schools, trade schools or boarding schools.
